It was quite a beautiful start to the first day of Session 1, 2015! First Session of 2015! Campers and counselors awoke to an exciting day and began cleaning for the Bunky Award. The ladies from Massachusetts were in high spirits when they started their first day of camp as the Spirit Stick winners from last night’s spirit competition with the themes, “Mass-Stache”! All the skits were fantastic. The boy cabins did exceptionally well. The boys from PLong took us back in time to the pre-historic days, New Hamp buzzed on by as the Hornets, Delaware searched for Waldo, Connecticut showed their sweet tooth as they sung a little song about candy, Maryland highlighted their native land’s spirit as the Mericans and the Rhode Island Rockstars rocked the night away. As for the girls, they also gave it their all. The girls from Virginia strutted their stuff, Massachusetts had some fantastic mustaches to show off, Kentucky grilled up some Krabby Patties, Tennessee hosted and won a track race, Carolina pretended to be bad girls as the criminals and New York got lost at sea. Good skits kiddos!
Once everyone had cleaned up and prepared for the day’s events, they headed to breakfast where the Kitchimockas had a delicious home-style breakfast awaiting the campers as they entered the Wilderness Lodge. They prepared cheesy scrambled eggs with bacon or sausage on the side, homemade biscuits and gravy, and fresh fruit. Those campers who weren’t in the mood for this large breakfast were able to eat a lighter portion of their choice of cereal.
After breakfast, the campers gathered in Fort Jackson for orientation. Jordan explained the general rules of camp and explained the trails, activities, and camp store. Next, the cabins headed to their first activity of the day. The ladies from Mass, Kentucky, and Virginia worked together to defeat the boys from Delaware, New Hamp, and P-Long in a very exciting water balloon war at Fort Crown Point. After the war, Delaware went over to Big Daddy’s Blob for some fun. New Hamp and PLong had a blast trying out the new waterslide, and Mass and Virginia had lots of fun blobbing and swimming at Tom’s Swimmin’ Hole. Connecticut conquered their fears and completed the Treetop Challenge. The ladies from Kentucky strolled over to do the Treetop Challenge and Connecticut was off to the Bermuda Triangle for a swim. The Maryland Mericans worked hard on their rubber band guns at Fort Crown Point. Rhode Island’s morning was filled with lots of fun with the G-Slide and some mind-boggling Low Ropes! Tennessee began their day shopping in the store with Jordan and then took a dip in the pool, and then they took to the rock and bouldering wall until lunchtime. Virginia joined Mass at Tom’s and had a blast playing in the water. Everyone finished up their exciting morning activities just before noon and headed to the Wilderness Lodge for a hearty lunch.
Kitchimockas whipped up a tasty meal of golden fried chicken tenders, creamy mashed potatoes, corn, and a choice of tea or water! During lunch the Bunky Men’s Wrestling Team entertained us with a song and announced that Mass and New York were the winners of today’s Bunky Award! After lunch, we all broke into different groups for a little club time. Campers and counselors love activity clubs because everyone can dabble around and try new things! Each day campers may choose which activity club they would like to be in for thirty minutes after lunch. Theme Dance Club, one of the favorites, got started on plans for the Thursday night Theme Dance, “Medieval Times.” Other activity clubs included Arts and Crafts, Karate, and courtyard games.
After club time it was back to the lands of Winnamocka for some more fun adventures! PLong took a turn at blobbing at Big Daddy’s Blob and then built some nice looking guns at Fort Crown Point. New Hamp joined Plong at the blob and afterward challenged their minds at some Low Ropes. Delaware took a dip in Tom’s Swimming Hole with Rhode Island and then joined PLong to build some guns. Connecticut went to build their guns right after lunch and then went blobbing at Big Daddy’s Blob. They loved it! Maryland conquered their fears and adventured onto the Treetop Challenge and then they changed into their swimsuits and took a dip in the pool. The men from Rhode Island took a dip in Tom’s Swimming Hole after their activity and then were the VERY FIRST cabin ever to try out Archery. They loved it and are now a part of Winnamocka History! The little ladies from Virginia took a climb on the Cargo Net and then had a little shopping spree at the camp store and after that they took a dip in the deluxe Tropical Pool. Massachusetts did a little bit of Low Ropes and then shopped in the camp store, after that they took to the Treetops and did the zipline. Way to go ladies! Kentucky worked on creating some nice little guns at Fort Crown Point and then went to the store to buy some nice camp items. They rounded out their afternoon with some fun at the G-Slide! Tennessee did a little bit of sliding down the G-Slide right after activities and then went out in the woods to do some low ropes. Carolina hung out in the slide for a bit and then also went to Bermuda and tried out the legendary Flying Wombat ride. And finally the ladies from New York finished up the afternoon with a trip to Bermuda, the store, and then Rock and Bouldering Wall. It was a fun-filled afternoon for everyone at Winnamocka today!
Everyone met back in the courtyard of Fort Jackson for some chatting and cooled off from the afternoon heat with plenty of water and Powerade. The Kitchimockas served a brand new dinner tonight, which included a potato bar with every last fixin’ you could imagine! Everyone is looking forward to tonight which brings the Color War Team announcements, Star Wars in the Great Meadows Soccer Field, Spirit Stick Award, Mail Call, and a visit from the Popsicle Man! The first full day of the Summer was a success! We are so excited for tomorrow and the rest of the summer, can’t wait!!!
