Thursday night ended with the Medieval Times dance. Everyone was dressed to party! Campers flooded into the Wilderness Lodge anticipating a great time and eagerly wondering who won the Color War competition. Before long, the Color War winners were announced! It was a heated event as points were awarded and everyone anxiously awaited the announcement of who won the all-camp relay worth 10 points thus putting almost any team on top. “We Are the Champions” rang loud and clear through the loud speakers, as everyone offered their congratulations to the White Team! Way to go! It was such a great time! After the Closing of the Gates, lights went out so everyone could rest up for today’s events.
Finally, the day is here! Campers and counselors awoke to a bright sunny day which was absolutely perfect weather for the all camp treasure hunt and WAR! Everyone headed to breakfast to build their energy. The Kitchimockas had the delicious homestyle favorite waiting as campers and counselors entered the Wilderness Lodge. We had scrambled eggs with a choice of sausage or bacon and biscuits topped with creamy gravy. After eating, everyone headed back to Fort Jackson for a last minute run to the Trading Post for camo goods. Counselors then lined campers up and separated them into treasure hunt teams. Once given the first clue, campers were off to find Blackbeard’s treasure. In order to win, each team had to use teamwork and map reading skills. They also had to avoid the counselor favorite one-minute penalties for those that showed less than perfect teamwork. Rachel Sutherland, Emma Robinson, Paris Joslin, Shelby Sweetin, Blair Hopper, and Anna Jeffrey pulled through and found Blackbeard’s treasure making them the Session #1, 2015 treasure hunt champions!
Everyone then headed to the Lodge to eat some lasagna, green beans, and warm buttery roles. GarreBear then explained the rules to war and the anticipated coin toss to determine who gets to defend Fort Crown Point began. Because the girls won the treasure hunt, the youngest gal on the winning team got to call the toss. Rachel Sutherland was the chosen candidate for her war team and will get to call the coin toss to see which team, Team Toe-Strap or Team No-Strap, will defend the fort and which team will attack the fort! After lunch, all the campers made their way back to Fort Jackson to prepare for the war which starts at 2:15 sharp! They made sure to put on some camo clothing and paint their faces to make it look like they are ready for war. At 2:15 ammo was live and we will just have to wait and see which team is victorious! After the first war the campers can choose to stay and fight another war or line up and head to the Wilderness Lodge for the newly created “Lodge Podge” where kids can play games like musical chairs and bingo!
The kids enjoyed and relaxed during a nice afternoon Courtyard Chat and after a light turkey croissant sandwich dinner, the campers had a quick break to hang out in the courtyard and pack a bit before returning to the Wilderness Lodge for a pillowcase signing party. They also joined together to watch a slide show, prepared by cameraman John Mark, of their awesome week together!
